The Seminary Student Council is organizing a group purchase of BibleWorks 8.  Individually, this software costs $350, but if we can get 10 or more people to buy it the price goes down to $250.  This is an incredible bargain for the premier original languages software available on the PC.  If you have any questions about the value of this software you can ask any of your professors and they will tell you.

You may wonder why you would want this if you already own a copy of Logos.  The answer is that the two software packages serve different purposes.  Logos does a very good job of quickly searching through a library of books, but it does not do nearly as well with the languages.  Anyone who plans on using the original languages in his ministry will be glad that he took advantage of this offer.  It will definitely help with Greek and Hebrew exegesis classes and will provide you with tools to keep using the languages after you leave seminary.

Shepherds Theological Seminary has been awarded full accreditation status with the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools. This announcement came at the TRACS Annual Conference being held this week in Greensboro, North Carolina. Dr. Stephen Davey, President of Shepherds Seminary, is a featured speaker at the conference.

The seminary administration notes that the accreditation with TRACS validates the seminary’s academic excellence, facilitates the transfer of credits to students who desire to pursue further studies or transfer credits into other institutions, and opens the door for foundation grants.

In Spring 2010, Professor Doug Bookman will be leading a Study Trip to Israel beginning February 20 and returning on March 5. This is a 14 day guided study trip with 11 full days in Israel. Explore the ruins of a crusader castle high above Caesarea-Philippi; push through the tunnel dug 2700 years ago by King Hezekiah to protect the city of Jerusalem; scramble down a cliff overlooking the plain of Genesarret; make your way through an archaeologist’s tunnel along the ancient retaining wall that reshaped the temple mount; climb the narrow snake path to Herod’s palace fortress atop a table rock in the Judean Wilderness. Cost for the trip is $2095 (all lodging, travel, entrance fees and incidentals paid) but does not include travel from and to the airport, lunches or any personal items (gifts, snacks, personal travel, etc.). Seminary students may earn 2 units of credit, at no additional charge.

Our next Shepherds Wives Fellowship meeting will be Wednesday, November 11, 2009 from 6:15-8:00 p.m. in Room CC 206 of Colonial Baptist Church. (We will NOT be meeting in the Hewitt home as previously announced.) In our sessions this year we are studying the attributes of God – What is God like? During our November meeting, Dr. David Burggraff will be focusing on God’s grace, particularly on how grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ (John 1:17). An appropriate attribute as we prepare our hearts for this holiday season.

Mrs. Marilyn Hodgins will share with us some practical Christmas traditions. Mrs. Diane Maness will provide a delicious holiday tea. Childcare will be provided by Colonial Baptist Church. During our October meeting, Kirk and Celinda Lehner, missionary candidates, will share their testimony of how the study of God’s attributes helped them through a difficult trial. The trial involved a “medical mistake” with one of their children.
